Music has been my passion since a very young age. I began my musical journey as a self-taught seven-year-old, constantly listening to and reproducing repertoire pieces my dad would share with me. I naturally trained my ear almost every day, driven by curiosity and a deep love for music. I began piano lessons at the age of 9. At 17, I earned third place in an essay competition on music composition, which awarded me a scholarship to pursue my studies at the University of the Americas in Puebla, Mexico. I graduated with honours, majoring in Piano Performance and Music Education. Throughout my music career, I’ve had the opportunity to teach music at elementary schools and academies, perform in numerous piano recitals, conduct orchestra ensembles and choirs. I’ve been teaching for over 25 years, as sharing my knowledge and helping others grow brings me enormous fulfillment.

Although I’ve always loved music, it wasn’t until after high school that I decided to pursue playing an instrument professionally. After a few years of dedication, I was admitted to the music program I had my heart set on. I have a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance from Humber College. With close to 20 years of teaching experience, I’ve taught a wide variety of music styles to students at any point along their musical journey. Lessons may include, but are not limited to, understanding music theory, improving playing technique, building repertoire, improvising, and reading standard notation. And there’s plenty of room to have fun along the way! I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to learning an instrument, so I emphasize that each lesson must meet the student where they are in skill level and desire. Together, we can achieve all of your musical goals!

I started drum lessons at the age of 5 and have continued with formal weekly lessons ever since. My teachers have trained me in music techniques, solfeggio, sight-reading, and performance. I’ve played in school bands and junior orchestras as a percussionist to enrich my musical experience, and I also serve as a drummer in church bands. I’m deeply passionate about music production—creating music is my everyday language. I am very enthusiastic about music and computers, tech sounds, music recording, and every week I spend a great amount of time exploring different programs. Even at a young age, I’ve gained valuable experience and I am fully committed to growing as both a performer and a creator. I enjoy teaching young beginners. I believe I understand how a young learner mind works since I learned as a 5 year old. My personality and music understanding helps me approach my students with patience and care.

My daughter has been taking piano for two years with Laura. It’s been such an incredible experience watching her learn and grow and to continue working on this skill that gives her joy. Laura is a supportive, kind and knowledgeable teacher. We cannot wait for our son to start in his musical journey learning guitar at Cadenza Music Collective. We look forward to the many more years!

We have been attending Cadenza Music since 2019 when my daughter was only 4. She is now 10 and has had a great experience, always wanting to return every year. We now have a second child who asks to continue with lessons each year. I would recommend this music studio to anyone looking for music lessons in Wasaga Beach!

She has also been flexible and allowed my son to learn songs that he was interested in, which helped make piano fun and enjoyable to him. I would highly recommended her studio.
